Woodland Oasis - Surrey
Cloverdale, BC
Client Need:
This client, who is an avid gardener, was moving to a different property and downsizing from a 2.5 acre yard to a 7,300 square foot yard; and she wanted to bring as many of her beloved plants as possible.
Higher Ground was hired to re-design the 7,300 square foot property to accommodate:
- two entertaining areas,
- a large child-friendly water feature, and
- more than 40 mature trees and shrubs and hundreds of perennials from the previous property.
Higher Ground’s Solution:
Creating space for this client’s plants was a challenge well-worth undergoing. Higher Ground transformed the new property by repurposing:
- retaining wall blocks,
- patio slabs,
- fence panels and posts,
- large rocks, and
- railings.
Higher Ground also transplanted several trees and shrubs.
Higher Ground installed all the hard features including:
- paving stone patios and pathways,
- retaining walls,
- two landings,
- fencing,
- water feature with upper and lower ponds and a 20 ft. creek with two downspouts attached for filling,
- landscape lighting, and
- shed relocation.
For the softscape, we excavated and hauled away the poor soil, amended the garden soil, transplanted more than 40 trees/shrubs, and repaired the lawns.
It was a pleasure and an honor to help this client achieve her vision—to save her prized trees and shrubs and create a new home for them. Repurposing many various materials to the new design was a particular joy, as we witnessed the transformation of bringing new life and use to all of the old materials. The end result is a woodland oasis—a peaceful setting to enjoy downtime.
